The Story Behind Imortela

Dear recipe lover,

I started gathering recipes as a teenager. My childhood friend’s mother baked wonderful pastries inspired by old French cookbooks. I used to ask her for every step; she would dictate patiently, and I would jot down each detail by hand on loose sheets of paper.

Over the years, that collection kept growing: recipes from TV cooking channels, social media, renowned chefs, and cherished books. Brownies hold a special place in my heart — I love experimenting with them so much that I ended up with an entire notebook dedicated solely to my own reinvented versions.

Before long, the challenge was no longer finding recipes, but the fact that they were scattered everywhere: in faded notebooks, on loose scraps, in phone photos, Word documents, and dozens of saved links.

Yet my thoughts also turned to the recipes that were never written down.

The family recipes

My grandmother made a pumpkin pie whose aroma I can still recall today. My father made wonderful traditional flatbreads, crisped just the way only he knew how. I never wrote them down in time, and today, with them no longer here, there is no one left to ask for those little secrets.

So many mothers and grandmothers cook entirely by heart. They never write their recipes down because it feels second nature. But for their children and grandchildren, those meals are treasured family memories. It would be a heartbreak for a beloved taste to fade away simply because nobody put it on paper.

A living cookbook

That is how Imortela came to life.

I named it after the everlasting flower — the one that preserves its beauty and warmth untouched by time.

I wanted a peaceful, intimate space where you can bring all your recipes together: dictated softly by a loved one, captured from grandmother's notebook, saved from the web, or born from your own kitchen experiments. A living cookbook that grows with you, guides you as you cook, and can be gifted with love to those who matter most.

Warmly,
Mirela C
